Check out this 8.0-km loop trail near Wawa, Ontario. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 48 min to complete. This is a popular trail for camping, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are May through September. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Discover this 4.3-km out-and-back trail near Wawa, Ontario. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 20 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and walking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring.
High Falls to Silver Falls
Moderate Hiking Ability. Lake Superior Trail.
Head out on this 5.3-km out-and-back trail near Wawa, Ontario. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 45 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking, snowshoeing, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. This trail includes hiking to beautiful waterfalls at both ends. If you’re coming from Magpie Falls, there are a few steep areas within the first kilometer, and one moist and muddy part that you may have to follow during the summer months. Most hikers will find this trail slightly challenging, but if you come prepared with water, weather protection (especially for the mist), and friends, you will have a great time.

Peat Mountain Loop
Moderate Hiking Ability. Lake Superior Park Trail
Check out this 8.0-km loop trail near Wawa, Ontario. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 37 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, camping, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are April through November. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
This is the very demanding hike with excellent views, but thankfully most of the challenges are in the first half of the Lake loop. Hikers recommend planning between three and five hours to hike with a dog. Bugs are normally worst in spring, so hiking at the end of summer and during fall is recommended. Folks recommend camping at Rabbit Blanket, paddling the lake and streams as well, before making your trek up to the beautiful views looking up at the mountain. Overall, this is a challenging trail with awesome lookouts, and the route is well marked and easy to follow. This is a shorter section of this loop, as there is a longer version that includes the Foam Lake extension.

Potholes Trail
Moderate Hiking Ability. Lake Superior Park Trail
Get to know this 0.8-km out-and-back trail near Wawa, Ontario. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 12 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
This is a very short hike along a peaceful little trail with some neat geological features to see, known as the Potholes. Folks recommend planning between 20-30 minutes here, along with bringing decent footwear to help navigate along the end of the trail. If interested, you can also go further into the Cedar Trails which is a moderate trail. The famous Potholes are a must watch. There is often quite a good variety of wildlife in the region, and you should be expecting to see animals like white mink, white-tailed deer, moose, bear, and fox.

This trail is great for birding and paddle sports, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. Beautiful day trip paddle with multiple short portages.

September 30, 2022We were traveling cross-country to relocate and needed a stop in Wawa along our route. Becuase we were traveling with pets, our choices were limited and some of the places -- even national chains -- were run down and it was evident that NOBODY who worked at them cared about their guests or their business. Our expectation were quite low when we arrived at the Outdoorsman Motel in Wawa, but were surprised and delighted. It is charming and the owners have clearly gone out of their way to create a clean, inviting experience for their guests. Lots of little touches that show they care deeply about the role a good motel plays for a weary traveller. We loved that they had all of the take-out menus from local restaurants in the room and offered us some extra towels and cloths becuase they knew we were traveling with pets. Highly recommended.

Full kitchenette and lots of room. Rooms have been renovated. The friendliest owners. Nice conversation, great coffee and freshly made cookies in the morning. Was great for my family of 4 and my pets. We will stay again if we are passing through.

They have coffee and cookies in the morning. We didn't really feel comfortable backing our trailer between some truck and the owner jumped right in and backed it up for us. Will stay again!

The room was very clean, equipped with a large fridge and microwave. it is conveniently located right in Wawa, walking distance from the downtown. Ray was very helpful and friendly and was able to share more information about the area.

April 30, 2022Love this place ❤️. Its warm and cozy. The new owners welcome you like family. The outdoorsy and country theme is inviting. Brand new everything from the rugs to the unique lamps. Took a day long motorbike ride with friends and and were happy to rest at this little gem. They even provided free shammys to wipe our bikes down. The new owners are delightful and helpful if you need anything. The rooms have a full size fridge and freezer to store anything you may pick up across the street at the local grocery store. There is also a beer store and restaurants less than a block away. Outside there are new barbecues and also lawn chairs for you to enjoy the fresh air. Last but not least , fresh delicious coffee and just baked cookies offered in the morning. We will most definitely be staying again.

September 30, 2022Stayed at the outdoorsman, last minute, after a long drive across northern Ontario. The place has been totally renovated with super cute, cabin decor, and was immaculately clean. I travel a lot for work and the bathroom, was probably one of the best I've seen. It had a huge, new bathtub, which is near impossible to find anywhere else. They are normally so small and gross at most places, but not here. But most importantly, again... It was so clean. The owners were also super nice. We came to ask for some ice and he handed us crystal glasses to mix a drink. Fresh cookies in the morning was also a nice touch. Would definitely recommend.

We really appreciated the full size fridge and freezer plus microwave. The parking lot was well lit and in good shape. Also the morning cookies and coffee are delicious.

Every corner is spotless, the kitchen the toilet the beds and furniture everything is nice and clean. My wife and I with a lovely Shiba inu We spent a night here. October 30, 2022We are driving from Ottawa to Vancouver with lots of overnight stays in chain hotels. This stay was by far the best. Clean, comfortable and friendly. Highly recommend. Only minor criticism was that as we had to leave very early, coffee was not available. Pot in the room would have been icing on the cake.

Ray and Lynn make you feel almost like your family from the first moment. The rooms are beautiful, everywhere is clean, everything is working, WiFi is amazing, they even invite you for a coffee and cookies in the morning! This motel is better than many 4 star hotels!! June 30, 2022My husband and I stayed here twice, on our honeymoon road trip. On the way up, we decided to book here and we loved it! We loved the cabin vibe of our room. It was very clean and comfortable. The gentleman checking us in was very nice. They even offer some baked goods and coffee in the morning. We loved it so much, we decided to stay there again on the way back. It is a very small town so there's limited things to do but Lake Wawa is beautiful! Highly recommended!
